HELENA KRIEL is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter. She teaches writing at Spalding University’s MFA in Writing Program. She conducts bi-annual creative writing workshops in South Africa.

A world traveler, she has journeyed to India multiple times. As screenwriter for the film Kama Sutra she spent months there doing research and returned for the production. She has studied with spiritual masters in remote parts of the country.

She has journeyed into India for no particular reason other than to enjoy the color, the sensuality, the people, the challenge and diversity that the country brings.

She volunteers with rhinos at a sanctuary in South Africa and is committed to animals and the environment. She looks for meaning as well as fun and adventure, asking always how one can "stand up to live" before one "sits down to write" following Thoreau’s dictum.

Imagine the India itinerary designed by someone who lived in an Indian temple. Imagine that this person has travelled to more destinations in India that most Indians. Imagine that she comes from a background of journalism and film production and uses these skills to create just the right combination of experiences. This is Alexis Kriel - she has had 30 years of experience with India, teaches Indian cooking in Johannesburg and designs tailor-made excursions to India. This is the talent behind our itinerary.
